Six-million glittering lights, breathtaking shows and traditional Christmas culinary delights
Like many, Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I love all the decorations, the lights, the cookies, the parties, the family time and everything else that goes along with it. So when Christmas Town joyously appeared years ago, we knew we had to go. And immediately after arrival, we knew this would be a yearly tradition. If you celebrate Christmas, live in Williamsburg, and haven’t been to Christmas Town yet…well..shame on you! You are missing out on a great festive experience.
As soon as the sun starts to go down you realize that this is not your normal Busch Gardens. Everything is decked out in beautiful lights and decorations. Christmas music permeates through every speaker amplified around the park. Chocolate covered treats, smores and colorfully decorated sweets are available at every corner. Hot Chocolate and Wassail – warm and comforting companions on those extra cold nights – are a must while here. Refillable mugs allow you to warm yourself more than once at very little expense. And for something more substantial, festive meals such as Christmas Dinner with turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing are offered at the main restaurants. And don’t rush past the restaurant desserts thinking they are the “regulars”. You will find holiday meal endings such as cranberry apple strudel, Christmas cake, and gingerbread cheesecake. I am all about sweets, so seeing them at every turn made me all giddy inside.
Apart from all the Christmas goodies you can stuff in your face, Christmas Town also offers much entertainment and rides for you to enjoy. Climb into one of the sky ride boxes and overlook the whole park while “ooing” and “ahhhing” at the lights. Ride the train and be taken on a little adventure complete with Christmas themed music and even more twinkling lights to enjoy. Attend one of the Christmas Town shows like “Gloria” or “Miracles” and get the chills as you hear beautiful carols being sung. Go see a very genuine Santa at his workshop, even if just waving at him through the workshop window. Get up close and see live penguins at the Ice Palace. There is definitely not a shortage of things to do, so make sure you get yourself in there early to have your maximum fill of activities.
Mindy’s Favorite Thing: I guess it’s cheating not to say a specific favorite part, but there is really no one thing that is my favorite alone. It’s the culmination of everything at Christmas Town that puts me in a merry Christmas sort of mood. It’s the combination of the lights, decorations, treats, carols, and cold weather that make Christmas Town what it is. Ah…what a great family tradition!
What Mindy would like to try next time: I would like to get some fudge dipped treats. We tried to get some on our way out of the park, but they were out of chocolate. Don’t duplicate our mistake and make sure you get your treat earlier in the day
